Cheltenham Festival CEO Guy Lavender Revels in Race Day Excitement Ahead of 2026 Event

With the Cheltenham Festival kicking off on Tuesday, March 10, CEO Guy Lavender is gearing up for what promises to be an iconic week of jump racing. Having taken the helm in August 2024 after seven years leading the Marylebone Cricket Club, Lavender is embracing his new role with enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence.

“I’m still finding my way in racing, but the warm welcome has been incredible,” Lavender remarked ahead of this year’s festival. Often dubbed the Olympics of jump racing, Cheltenham attracts elite horses and passionate fans, and Lavender believes this year’s lineup will deliver an outstanding spectacle.

During the festival, Lavender maintains a hands-on approach, staying constantly on the move to ensure everything runs smoothly. He starts each morning with a walk around the course alongside Clerk of the Course Jon Pullin, a ritual he describes as a “fairly iconic moment.” From there, he leads briefings with his senior team and keeps an active presence around the racecourse, engaging with staff and attendees alike.

“Once the first race is underway, I finally feel a bit more relaxed,” he shared. The start of the first race ranks among his favorite moments, along with the highlight Gold Cup. “It’s a huge privilege but comes with big responsibilities. We want everyone involved to feel proud of delivering a world-class experience.”

Lavender also expressed admiration for local trainers, admitting a “soft spot” for many and hoping to see some local success this year. Yet, he remains diplomatic about picking winners, emphasizing the festival’s collaborative spirit and dedication to showcasing the best of jump racing.

As the countdown continues, the Cheltenham Festival under Guy Lavender’s leadership promises a thrilling blend of tradition, competition, and community. Race week is set to deliver unforgettable moments for fans, participants, and the racing world at large.
