Cheltenham town centre is set to welcome a new tapas bar where visitors can “enjoy good food and a nice bottle of wine.” Licensing authorities have approved Aaron Maximen’s plans for Jebou, located at 4 Montpellier Walk, allowing the venue to serve alcohol, host live and recorded music, and provide late-night food service.
Jebou will offer a menu of small tapas-style dishes paired with a curated selection of high-quality wines, gins, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. The establishment aims to create a relaxed ambiance complemented by occasional live music, emphasizing a social dining experience rather than a nightclub atmosphere.
The proposals were reviewed by Cheltenham Borough Council on June 4. While 11 residents objected, expressing concerns about noise and public nuisance, Mr. Maximen held a Q&A session with local residents to address their issues.

“Montpellier is a beautiful area, and my goal is to add value to the community, not take away from it,” said Mr. Maximen. “This will be a restaurant, not a nightclub. Unlike clubs filled with loud music and young people drinking Jägerbombs, this will be a place where people can relax, converse until 11:30 pm on Saturdays, enjoy a glass of wine, and share small plates.”
He emphasized that the venue’s demographic would be those seeking a refined social setting rather than heavy drinking. “It’s about great food, good wine, and a pleasant atmosphere.”
The license permits alcohol sales from 9 am to 10 pm Sunday through Thursday and until 12:30 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Recorded music can be played from 9 am to 11:30 pm Monday to Thursday and until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays, with live music permitted from 7 pm until closing hours. Late-night food service will be available until 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, with no food served on Sundays.
The licensing committee unanimously granted the premises license, incorporating conditions agreed upon with local police and environmental health officials to mitigate any potential disturbances.
