Organisers of the iconic Cheese Rolling event at Cooper’s Hill in Brockworth have issued a heartfelt plea to spectators, urging them to park correctly to prevent the usual traffic gridlock that frustrates local residents each year.
Set for May 25, Monday’s event attracts visitors from far and wide, but road congestion and illegal parking have become recurring problems. In a message posted on the official Cooper’s Hill Cheese Roll Facebook page, organisers stated: “We are literally begging you to park correctly and use one of the parking areas listed, as we get majorly moaned at about it! The whole area comes to a standstill massively, so we need you to listen to us, please.”
The event site itself has no parking available, meaning attendees must use designated zones and then walk 30 to 45 minutes to the hill. Organisers emphasize that spectators don’t need to climb the hill to enjoy the event—the fields below offer excellent views, especially for families with children.

The event will also be livestreamed by the BBC, ensuring those who cannot attend in person can still watch. Organisers remind all participants and spectators that attendance is entirely at one’s own risk.
Official parking zones, priced between £5 and £10, include several designated areas such as Henley Bank High School. Races kick off at noon.
This adrenaline-fueled event involves competitors chasing a nine-pound wheel of Double Gloucester cheese as it hurtles down the notoriously steep 180-metre Cooper’s Hill at speeds reaching up to 70-80 mph. Contestants, who must be over 18, are known to face injuries ranging from bruises to broken bones.
Last year’s first men’s race was won by German YouTuber Tom Kopke, who also took the 2024 title. Local competitor Luke Preece claimed victory in the second men’s race in 2025, while Ava Sender Logan won the women’s competition in her debut appearance.
Spectators are encouraged to plan ahead, park responsibly, and enjoy one of the world’s most thrilling traditional sports safely and respectfully.
