In a recent episode of Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet, beloved farming icon Jean Green couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at her co-star Peter Wright following a challenging day at the Great Yorkshire Show.
The episode, aired on Thursday, June 12, saw the vets called upon to assist with the Cannon Hall Farm’s animal presentations. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Cannon Hall Farm was unable to showcase their animals themselves and enlisted the help of Peter Wright, Shona Searson, and Rohin Aojula.

Peter took on the tough task of parading Cannon Hall Farm’s Highland bull, Murphy. However, the unpredictable Yorkshire weather unsettled Murphy, leaving the bull momentarily spooked. Despite a tense struggle, Peter managed to calm Murphy, ultimately earning the bull a respectable third-place rosette.
While Peter and the Cannon Hall Farm team were proud of their achievement, Jean Green—known for her seasoned farming expertise—was less impressed. At the Great Yorkshire Show, Jean and her husband Steve Green, aged 73 and 96, caught up with Peter and his wife Lin over lunch. Peter commented that Murphy had been “a bit of a handful,” prompting Jean to ask about their placement.
When Lin remarked on Peter’s pride in the third-place finish, Jean couldn’t resist a playful quip: “Not bad for an amateur,” which drew laughter from both Peter and Lin.
Jean and Steve Green, celebrated as some of the UK’s most experienced farmers, have been farming together for 45 years at their Stoneybrough Farm in Thirsk. Their warm friendship with Peter adds a heartfelt layer to the show’s dynamic.
The Yorkshire Vet continues to air every Thursday at 8 pm on Channel 5, offering viewers a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of rural life.
