Cause of Gloucester House Fire That Claimed Beloved Woman’s Life Remains Unknown

The cause of a devastating house fire that took the life of a beloved woman in Gloucester is still under investigation, with authorities confirming no third-party involvement.

The fire broke out at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, on Attlebridge Way in Kingsway. Amy Louise Stafford, 42, was identified as the victim who succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the blaze.

Amy’s family released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as “a bright light in our lives” who has “dimmed forever.” Floral tributes have since been left at the smoke-blackened home, reflecting the community’s sorrow.

Neighbours on Attlebridge Way and nearby Fersfield Gardens shared their shock and disbelief, noting a sombre atmosphere in the area following the tragedy. Many have placed flowers at the front door in memory of Amy.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted arriving home to see paramedics on the scene. “It’s just horrible. We don’t know what caused it yet, but it’s truly tragic,” she said. “Amy was always warm and friendly, and it’s a terrible shock for everyone here.”

Emergency services responded quickly, with police, fire crews, and ambulance personnel attending the scene. Amy was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with severe burns but tragically died later that evening.

Some neighbours reported hearing a loud noise that resembled an explosion, though officials caution this is merely speculation as investigations continue.

On Friday afternoon, the new curate of St James Church in Quedgeley visited residents along Attlebridge Way, offering support and comfort during this difficult time.

A police cordon was initially established to allow Gloucestershire Police and Fire and Rescue investigators to thoroughly examine the scene. Authorities confirmed that their inquiries have not found any evidence of foul play, and efforts are ongoing to determine the fire’s exact cause.

Amy’s family expressed profound grief in their full statement: “Our beloved daughter and sister Amy has tragically been taken from us. Words cannot express our sorrow. A bright light in our lives has dimmed forever, but we will always cherish the warmth and love she brought to us all. We extend our deepest thanks to the rescue teams who fought tirelessly to save her. Our love goes out to all of Amy’s family and friends near and far. Goodbye dearest Amy, sleep now — we are so proud of our independent lady.”
