Cameron Thomas MP Firmly Denies Allegations Following Arrest

Cameron Thomas, the Liberal Democrat MP for Tewkesbury, has strongly denied the allegations that led to his arrest on June 17. He was detained by Gloucestershire Police on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault but was later released on bail pending further inquiries.

In a public statement, Mr Thomas said, “Allegations were recently made against me, which resulted in my arrest last week by officers of Gloucestershire Constabulary. I comprehensively refute those allegations and continue to fully cooperate with their investigation.”

He added, “Until the conclusion of that investigation, I am unable to comment further, but I will continue to serve my constituents as their elected Member of Parliament. My office remains in place to support constituents with casework and official inquiries.”

Following his arrest, the Liberal Democrat party suspended Mr Thomas’ whip and, reportedly, his party membership as they await the outcome of the police investigation.

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson confirmed, “On Wednesday (June 17), a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. The man was interviewed by officers before later being released on police bail. Inquiries into the allegations made against him are ongoing.”

The Liberal Democrat party has stated that they will refrain from further comment while the investigation continues.

Mr Thomas, a former RAF officer, was elected to Parliament in the 2024 general election and remains committed to his duties throughout the ongoing process.
