Call the Midwife’s Helen George Left ‘Furious’ Over Buckingham Palace Discovery

Helen George, best known for her role as Trixie Franklin in the hit series Call the Midwife, recently opened up about an unexpected revelation she encountered at a Buckingham Palace event. Speaking on the Like Minded Friends podcast with Tom Allen and Suzi Ruffell, Helen shared her feelings of frustration following a royal gathering attended by numerous actors and arts professionals.

The podcast discussion celebrated the show’s unique blend of history and community, with Helen emphasizing its “classless” appeal, bridging social divides among its diverse audience. She then disclosed that members of the Royal Family might “possibly” watch the programme, mentioning an unnamed royal who she believes has since passed away.

“I’ve heard that members of the Royal Family possibly watch the show, possibly do watch the show,” Helen revealed. “I don’t think one of them is with us any more.”

When asked about attending royal events, Helen confirmed she had been to a garden party at Buckingham Palace the previous year. Though she enjoyed the occasion, she was “furious” there was no alcohol served. Clarifying that it was an afternoon tea event, she joked that with so many actors and arts figures present, it was “completely dry”—no champagne in sight.

Last May, Helen made headlines for her elegant appearance at the Sovereign’s Creative Industries Garden Party, donning a white strapless bodice with a skirt adorned by floral buttons and a bow fascinator. Sharing photos from the day on Instagram, she captioned them: “Palace garden party fun,” drawing compliments on her stunning look.

In addition to her acting career, Helen recently ventured into reality TV as part of the celebrity cast on ITV’s SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters. The show, which premiered last Monday, celebrates the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws by featuring famous personalities engaging in underwater shark encounters in the Bahamas.

Helen joins notable stars like Sir Lenny Henry, Ade Adepitan, Ross Noble, Dougie Poynter, Lucy Punch, and Countdown’s Rachel Riley on this thrilling adventure. Initially excited, Helen admitted to the Liverpool ECHO that she found the experience more daunting than expected. “I am quite scared of swimming and I started to think, is this a good idea? Let alone the sharks,” she said.

Despite her fears, Helen was motivated to challenge herself, calling the opportunity a “no-brainer” and describing the experience as “such an interesting thing” to be part of.
