A beloved café and deli in Stroud, Gloucestershire, Little Ginger Deli & Café, is set to close its shop this weekend. Despite this bittersweet decision, owner Claire Cappell has revealed exciting plans to pivot the business toward a new focus on catering and events.
Founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, Little Ginger Deli & Café has been a cherished part of the community for nearly five years. While the Stroud location will close, its sister café in Miserden will remain open until September and reopen next April for the season. The Miserden branch will continue serving homemade cakes, quiches, light lunches, and afternoon teas, both dine-in and take-away.
Claire explained the difficult choice on the café’s Facebook page: “After much soul-searching and personal inner turmoil, I have made the decision that from this Saturday, Little Ginger Deli & Café in Stroud will be closing its doors. I know this will be a shock to many and I apologize for any disappointment.”

Despite the closure, the business is far from ending. Instead, Little Ginger is evolving to focus year-round on catering for local businesses, private events, celebrations, and community functions. Plans also include hosting music events and pop-up evenings at the Miserden location, and offering fabulous hampers delivered at Christmas.
Reflecting on the journey, Claire shared the challenges faced over five years, including the pandemic, lockdowns, an energy crisis, and caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s. “I knew I had overwhelming personal desire to prove something to myself,” she said. “Now, with escalating costs and after many long hours baking hundreds of cakes, I believe my time running the deli is done.”
Little Ginger Deli & Café has always been about creating a welcoming space where people feel valued, and fostering a respected and passionate team. Claire affirms, “We are not disappearing; we are simply evolving and moving forward.”
The community is encouraged to stay connected via Instagram and Facebook to follow the exciting new chapter ahead.
