Brits Embrace Thrilling 24-Hour Jet-Set Dates Over Traditional Evenings

Say goodbye to candlelit dinners and quiet pub nights—nearly half of Brits are now opting to hop on a plane for a whirlwind 24-hour romantic adventure. According to new findings from MoneySuperMarket, 43% of Brits would consider an extreme day trip abroad for a date, turning quick getaways into the latest dating craze.

This trend capitalizes on affordable flights and the convenience of traveling light, making it possible for couples to squeeze a full overseas experience into just one day—without the hassle of overnight stays. Interest in these “extreme day trip” dates has skyrocketed, with Google searches increasing by 10,000 since January.

The appeal of international dating adventures is clear, with 15,000 global searches for dating abroad highlighting a growing enthusiasm for love beyond borders.

So, where are adventurous Brits jetting off to find romance? France tops the list, capturing 26% of preferred destinations, followed by sun-soaked Spain at 17%, and the scenic beauty of Greece at 15%.

But the destination is just part of the story—activities during these trips matter, too. One in five Brits favor activity-based dates, and a significant 34% believe that engaging in fun activities is the best way to connect with a potential partner.

Alicia Hempsted of MoneySuperMarket notes the surge in travel-related inquiries: “We’ve seen a 25% rise in single trip travel insurance requests in the first quarter compared to last year. With a third of Brits seeking excitement in their love lives, it’s no surprise that many are exploring romance abroad.”

If traditional dates feel stale, maybe it’s time to swap the usual evening for a passport and an exhilarating day of love—going the distance has never been so thrilling.
