Pupils at Filton Avenue Primary School in Bristol have taken on the roles of doctors and patients to create a series of adorable yet informative health videos in collaboration with North Bristol NHS Trust. Year One and Year Five students acted out common ailments while providing accurate NHS advice, aiming to help families make better choices during illness and injury. The videos, shared on social media and the school’s internal parent network, feature youngsters portraying fictional patients like “Mr Hurt Ankle” and “Mr Cold” receiving care from their older peers playing doctors or pharmacists. The initiative is designed to educate families about managing minor illnesses and injuries and knowing when to seek help from the appropriate NHS service.
Dr Sam Patel, medical director for medical workforce at North Bristol NHS Trust, praised the involvement of the pupils, highlighting the effectiveness of using children to deliver public health messages. Gemma Kirk, assistant headteacher at Filton Avenue Primary School, expressed how the campaign provided valuable learning opportunities for the children while facilitating collaboration with the NHS team.
