A courageous survivor has been widely praised for speaking out about the devastating ordeal inflicted on her by Samuel Rust. Now 23, Rust was convicted of multiple sexual offences, including rape, anal rape, and false imprisonment, committed when both he and his victim were just 16 years old.
Rust was sentenced to six and a half years in prison following the trial at Gloucester Crown Court on December 17. During the hearing, the victim delivered a powerful and moving statement, revealing the lasting trauma she continues to endure.
She told the court, “The abuse I have suffered at the hands of you, Samuel Rust, is indescribable. Yet I’m almost certain you cannot grasp how severely your actions have affected anyone but yourself.

“For years, I have carried the crushing, debilitating weight of fear and shame because of you. No words can accurately describe the horror you subjected me to.
“No place feels safe in the shadow of your presence. Flashes of the violent and humiliating acts you committed replay in my mind without warning. In those moments, I feel disgust toward my own body.
“I wish I could escape this flesh you bruised, yet my mind remains captive. A part of you lingers there, and I am terrified of how long it will stay – how many years it will take for me to find true peace.
“Many people now see you for what you are, Samuel Rust, and I hope deeply you see yourself that way too. Today, you leave this court labeled a rapist, a violent man, an abuser. If you don’t accept that, then you will remain those things forever.
“Although this trial has been deeply harrowing, I am grateful to everyone who helped bring about this outcome.”
Rust was found guilty of one count each of anal rape, oral rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment, the latter relating to the time he forced his victim into a cupboard. He also pleaded guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images shortly before trial.
Although acquitted of 25 other counts and with seven additional charges unresolved and lying on file, the court heard that Rust had a troubling history from a young age, including a fixation on disturbing material.
This brave testimony highlights not only the survivor’s strength but also the ongoing impact such crimes have on victims, underscoring the importance of justice and support.
