Bradley Walsh reveals filming halt due to ‘haunted’ studio scare

Bradley Walsh has shared a spooky behind-the-scenes secret from his latest series, confessing an episode where he suspected the studio of being haunted.

The Chase presenter, 64, will be hosting the new episodes of the much-loved BBC gameshow Blankety Blank. Since its revival by the BBC in 2021, Walsh has become synonymous with the show, transitioning it from a one-off Christmas special to a regular full-length program.

As anticipation builds for the forthcoming series scheduled for Saturday, 19 April, Bradley has disclosed some on-set drama; the filming had to unexpectedly halt when a blackout engulfed the set in shadows.

He recounted the eerie moment, saying: “During one of the episodes, our studio lights just stopped working and it threw us all into darkness. I was convinced the studio was haunted at that point! So, we had to stop the recording to fix them.”

In a bid to keep the live audience amused while resolving the technical glitch, show producers promptly arranged an impromptu concert featuring Jedward, much to everyone’s delight.

Bradley shared: “To keep the audience entertained, Jedward got up onto the stage and started singing. Then the sound department started playing Jedward’s songs, and Jedward were up and dancing around the studio and into the audience.”

He enthused: “The audience loved it, they were clapping and dancing along; it was both amazing and surreal. I truly couldn’t believe my eyes, and neither could our celebrity panel.”

The premiere of the new series will see a lineup of famous faces providing assistance to the contestants.

Lending their expertise to the hopeful competitors will be Coronation Street’s Antony Cotton, funnymen Nish Kumar and Rosie Jones, alongside Birds of a Feather’s very own Lesley Joseph. They are joined by EastEnders' star Shane Richie and none other than Spice Girl Mel B completing the ensemble.

Bradley shared his excitement for the upcoming episodes, commenting: “It is probably the most unpredictable series of Blankety Blank yet. We’ve got prizes that are peak Blankety Blank.

“If you thought the prizes on the last series were good, wait until you see this series. We’ve got hilarious celebs, and the contestants we have in this series are gold. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

A brand new series of Blankety Blank is set to air on April 19 on BBC One.
