Boost Your Vitamin C Intake with This Smart Snack

Maintaining a balanced diet is crucial for overall health, yet many individuals struggle to achieve this. A recent study has identified a concerning deficiency of vitamin C throughout the UK.

Statistics indicate that nearly a quarter of adults and teenagers, as well as one in 10 children, are not obtaining adequate levels of this essential nutrient. Given its vital role in bolstering immunity and safeguarding the body’s cells, it’s apparent that we need to make more informed dietary choices.

Frive’s expert nutritionist, Sophie Trotman, suggests various methods for enhancing vitamin C consumption, one of which involves a popular and affordable fruit. Cherry tomatoes, priced at just 69p for a pack at Aldi, are packed with nutritional value.

According to Sophie, “Vitamin C is an essential nutrient with multiple benefits, including maintaining healthy skin, blood vessels, bones, and aiding in wound healing. Unfortunately, our increasing reliance on vitamin-deprived ultra-processed foods means we’re missing out on these crucial vitamins.”

She further emphasizes, “Proper nutrition isn’t about extremes. It’s about eating well, consistently, and making choices that work for you long-term.”

To address this issue, Sophie provides some straightforward, expert-approved recommendations. She notes that Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, plays several vital roles, including preventing scurvy. This nutrient is abundant in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, such as cherry tomatoes. Adults aged 19 to 64 require 40mg of vitamin C daily, which should be attainable through their regular diet. Since vitamin C cannot be stored in the body, daily consumption is necessary.

Frive advocates for a well-balanced diet rich in vitamin C, stressing the ease of achieving this with thoughtful planning. The company offers nutritionist-designed meal plans that simplify the process of obtaining essential nutrients without the need for calorie counting or restrictive diets.
