Body Found in River Avon During Search for Missing Man in Gloucestershire

Police have recovered a body in the River Avon in Tewkesbury as part of an ongoing search for a man who was reported missing over a week ago. The search began last Friday evening, December 19, after eyewitnesses reported seeing a man enter the water near Mythe Road.

The missing individual is believed to be a local man in his 20s. Following the initial report, a large-scale rescue operation was launched immediately, involving multiple search and rescue teams. However, the efforts faced challenges due to the river’s fast flow and elevated water levels caused by heavy rainfall in December, which temporarily paused the search.

The search resumed after Christmas, and on Saturday, December 27, the body was discovered. Although formal identification has not yet been completed, the man’s family has been informed. Gloucestershire Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
