Bishop’s Cleeve Traveller Campsite Refused Permission

A group of Travellers living in a field on the outskirts of Bishop’s Cleeve has been denied planning permission to occupy the site by Tewkesbury councillors. Despite a High Court injunction forbidding their presence since May, around a dozen mobile and static homes have been set up on the Green Belt field off Kayte Lane without prior permission. This unauthorised development sparked objections from nearby residents, leading to the council’s decision to refuse the campsite on the basis of it being “inappropriate” for the Green Belt. The refusal also cited the lack of safe access to the site and its impact on the rural landscape. The next course of action for the council is to enforce the High Court injunction and restore the field to its previous state, including the removal of all unauthorized structures like fencing and security gates. The application for Kayte Lane can be viewed on the Tewkesbury Borough Council planning website using reference 23/00641/FUL.
