A former violin shop in Cheltenham’s town centre, located just steps from a vibrant entertainment complex, could soon be converted into a stylish three-bedroom family home. The planning application seeks to transform the two-storey Grade II listed building on Henriette Street, which housed Cheltenham Violins for 23 years before closing in September last year.
Situated next to the popular Brewery Quarter and facing establishments like Pizza Express, Hollywood Bowl, and Prezzo, the property is ideally placed for city-centre living. The proposal involves comprehensive internal refurbishments, turning the former commercial space into a comfortable family residence featuring a lounge, kitchen, and two bathrooms.
According to documents submitted to Cheltenham Borough Council by Mekkara Architectural Consultants on behalf of applicant Richard Jones, the renovation will honor the building’s historical significance. “The replacement doors and building materials have been carefully chosen to preserve the building’s character, appearance, and significance within the conservation area,” the application states.
The conversion aims to secure the long-term future of this Grade II listed property by adapting it for residential use while maintaining the integrity of Cheltenham’s Central Conservation Area. The proposal emphasizes that any minimal impact on the heritage asset is outweighed by the benefits of preserving the building through its new use as a family home.
Henriette Street connects the Lower High Street, home to the Premier Inn, with St Margaret’s Road, where the Holiday Inn stands. Nearby, residents would enjoy easy access to the Brewery Quarter’s attractions including Cineworld cinema, the Botanist bar, Tesco Express, Flight Club, Nando’s, and Go Outdoors, making this location a prime spot for modern urban living.
