Hardwicke footballers are gearing up for a celebratory trip to Benidorm this June, following a flawless and triumphant Northern Senior League Two season. Led by player-manager Jack Twyman, the squad completed the campaign unbeaten, with 23 wins and five draws from 28 matches, securing the title by an eight-point margin over runners-up Smiths Barometrics.
One of the most unforgettable moments was a dramatic 4-4 comeback against mid-table Kings Stanley. Despite trailing 4-1 with just 30 minutes left and reduced to 10 men, Hardwicke’s resilience shone through as they fought back to salvage a draw.
Twyman highlighted the 2-0 victory away at Smiths Barometrics as the team’s standout performance, with goals from Jack Hill and Taro Weston. “The pressure was immense, but everyone stepped up,” he reflected, commending the quality and consistency of their main rivals.

This remarkable turnaround follows two seasons of relegation setbacks before Twyman’s appointment last summer. “Hardwicke means a lot to me,” he said. “To win the league unbeaten is something special. Initially, our goal was promotion, but unbeaten? That surpassed expectations.”
Addressing the low confidence in the squad at the season’s start, Twyman focused on fostering enjoyment and adding experience, bringing in key players such as goalkeeper Ollie Hall, Paul Carter, Fred Humphries, and prolific striker Alex Stratford, who scored 27 goals. “The blend of youth and experience was vital, and stability in the squad made a big difference,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Hardwicke prepares for the challenges of Division One, recognizing the competitive leap and the tough climb to the County League. Twyman remains realistic but optimistic: “Our aim is to compete for a top-four finish. Clubs like Dursley Town have struggled for years, so it’s tough, but we’re ready to take it on.”
Before the new season begins, the team and their families will enjoy some well-earned relaxation on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Twyman emphasizes that beyond the results, building camaraderie through social events and fostering a strong club atmosphere remain top priorities. “Hardwicke is a fantastic club, and we’re excited for what’s to come,” he said.
