Ben Charlesworth to Join Lancashire on Three-Year Deal

Ben Charlesworth, the talented left-handed batter and medium-pace bowler, has confirmed his move from Gloucestershire to Lancashire, signing a three-year contract starting 1 November 2026. The 25-year-old all-rounder impressed during the recent Rothesay County Championship, amassing 914 runs including two centuries, one notably against Lancashire at Cheltenham.

Since his First-Class debut in 2018, Charlesworth has made 60 appearances, scoring 2,869 runs at an average of 30, and taking 33 wickets. His List A credentials are equally strong, with nearly 1,000 runs at an average of 39, highlighted by a maiden century versus Hampshire in last season’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

In the T20 format, Charlesworth boasts a batting average of 24 with a striking strike rate of 145. He gained valuable experience with MI Emirates in the ILT20 and was a key player for Gloucestershire in their victorious 2024 Vitality Blast campaign, contributing 221 runs.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Charlesworth said: “I am really excited to be joining Lancashire Cricket. It’s a club with a proud history and strong ambitions across all formats. I know Ajeet Singh Dale and Will Porterfield well from their time at Gloucestershire, and they have spoken very highly about the set-up at Lancashire and Emirates Old Trafford. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and helping the team succeed.”

Lancashire’s Director of Cricket Performance, Mark Chilton, welcomed the signing: “Ben is a player we have monitored closely and are thrilled to bring him on board from the 2027 season. His versatility – able to bat in various positions and offer seam bowling – adds great value to our squad. Ben has shown significant promise, and we believe Emirates Old Trafford is the perfect environment for his continued development. We also thank Jon Lewis at Gloucestershire for facilitating this transfer smoothly ahead of the usual contract window.”
