Michael Kean-Price, a much-loved former town crier and town serjeant for Tewkesbury, has passed away, prompting an outpouring of tributes from the community and local authorities. Known affectionately as Mike, he served in his role for an impressive 26 years, delivering his final proclamation in October 2024.
Tewkesbury Town Council paid tribute to Mike, describing him as a “beloved town icon” and a “champion of Tewkesbury” whose dedication to the community inspired many. The council highlighted his prominent role in leading key civic events such as the annual Remembrance Parade and the proclamation of the new King. Mike was a familiar and welcomed presence around Tewkesbury, often seen on Saturdays calling out news and announcements to the townspeople.
The council stated: “We are honoured to celebrate the legacy of Michael Kean-Price, whose unwavering commitment served to unite and inspire our community for over two decades. He will be dearly remembered and deeply missed.”

Cameron Thomas, Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury, also shared heartfelt reflections in a Facebook tribute, describing Mike as someone who “genuinely cared about the town.” He recalled a recent encounter at the 2024 Tewkesbury LIVE Free Music Festival, where Mike expressed his enthusiasm and support before announcing his retirement.
Mr Thomas also recounted a later meeting at a service for Gloucestershire veterans of the battle of Imjin River, where he was struck by changes in Mike’s health. Despite facing challenges, Mike remained uncomplaining and continued to exemplify his devotion to the community.
He added, “Tewkesbury town needs people that genuinely care and serve the community, and with Mike’s passing, we have lost one of those true servants. My thoughts go out to his friends and family during this difficult time.”
