Michael Kean-Price, the former town crier and town serjeant of Tewkesbury, has passed away, leaving a deep void in the local community. Revered as a “beloved town icon,” Michael served the town with unwavering dedication for 26 years before his final proclamation in October 2024.
Tewkesbury Town Council paid heartfelt tribute, describing him as a “champion of Tewkesbury” whose commitment inspired many. The council highlighted his active role in leading events such as the annual Remembrance Parade and the proclamation of the new King. Saturdays often saw Michael out and about, calling news and announcements to the townspeople, a tradition that made him a familiar and cherished figure.
In an official statement, the council said: “Tewkesbury Town Council is honoured to celebrate the legacy of our beloved town icon and former town crier and town serjeant Michael Kean-Price, who inspired us all with his unwavering dedication to our community for 26 years. Mike was a champion of Tewkesbury in every way, from leading the annual Remembrance Parade to the proclamation of the new King. Mike could often be seen around Tewkesbury on a Saturday calling out the news and announcements for the town. He will be dearly remembered and deeply missed.”

Cameron Thomas, the Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury, shared his personal tribute on Facebook, reflecting on Michael’s genuine care for the town. He recalled a recent conversation with Michael following the 2024 General Election at the ‘Tewkesbury LIVE - Free Music Festival’, where Michael expressed his enthusiasm despite announcing his pending retirement.
Mr Thomas also recounted meeting Michael at a service for Gloucestershire veterans of the Battle of Imjin River earlier this year, noting the impact of Michael’s declining health and his continued positive spirit. “Tewkesbury town needs people that genuinely care about Tewkesbury town, people that will serve Tewkesbury town and we have lost one of those people today,” he said, extending his condolences to Michael’s friends and family.
Michael Kean-Price’s legacy as a devoted servant and vibrant presence in Tewkesbury will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
