‘Beautiful’ Cotswolds Walk Offers Stunning Views, Charming Villages, and a Perfect 5-Mile Trek

American travelers Katie and Anthony Kay, well-known for documenting their journeys on TikTok, have recently fallen in love with a five-and-a-half-mile walk through the Cotswolds, calling it “the best walk” they’ve encountered in the region. The Cotswolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is renowned for its tranquil landscapes, honey-colored stone cottages, expansive trails, cozy pubs, local markets, and charming villages—making it a perfect destination for hikers and holidaymakers alike.

Their featured route is a circular trail beginning in the picturesque village of Bourton-on-the-Water, affectionately nicknamed the “Venice of the Cotswolds” for its enchanting riverside scenery. Bourton-on-the-Water also attracts visitors with highlights such as the Cotswold Motoring Museum, the Model Village, and Birdland Park and Gardens.

From there, the trail meanders alongside the Rivers Windrush and Eye, passing historic churches, mills, manor houses, and stone cottages before reaching the peaceful villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter. Interestingly, the word “Slaughter” comes from the Old English ‘slothre,’ meaning ‘muddy place,’ perfectly describing the riverbanks that run through them.

Katie shared their experience of tackling the walk from the “end” of the route rather than its official start but noted that, since it’s a loop, this made little difference. Despite feeling exhausted after completing the full 5.5-mile circuit, they agreed the stunning views and charming surroundings made it well worth the effort.

Offering helpful advice, the couple recommended bringing a full water bottle and snacks since shops, restrooms, and refill points are limited along the way. They also suggested using hiking apps like OS Maps, AllTrails, or Wikiloc, as the trail signage near the start can be unclear. The path is beginner-friendly, featuring only gentle inclines, though walkers should be cautious of a stretch along a busy main road.

The couple’s glowing recommendation has resonated with viewers, who flooded the comments with praise. Fans called the scenery “gorgeous” and “beautiful,” echoing Katie’s sentiment that this walk is truly one of the most memorable they’ve ever experienced.
