BBC’s Ben Fogle Shares How The Masked Singer Role Sparked Affair Fears with His Wife

Ben Fogle, the well-known Countryfile presenter, recently disclosed the personal challenges he faced while participating in BBC’s The Masked Singer. Playing the mysterious character Sloth, Ben kept his role a secret for weeks, which led him to worry his wife might misunderstand his unusual Saturday night absences as signs of infidelity.

Speaking exclusively to the Express, the 52-year-old said, “I really decided to go all in. It was tough keeping it under wraps from my family. I told my wife because I was certain she’d think I was having an affair if I vanished every Saturday night without explanation.” Interestingly, Ben chose not to tell his children, making their reaction to his reveal on the show even more surprising. “They were completely shocked—they had no idea! It was so unlike anything I’ve done before,” he added.

Looking ahead, Ben expressed enthusiasm for exploring new and unconventional projects. “I’m fortunate to travel and do exciting things already. If another opportunity arose that was fun, challenging and unlike my usual work, I’d definitely consider it. Turning 50 made me realize life is short, and sometimes we need to shake things up and not take ourselves too seriously,” he explained.

Currently, Ben is touring nationally with his theatre show, WILD, where he shares inspiring stories from his adventures around the world—from Swedish wilderness to the forests of Honduras, and even Chernobyl and Nepal. The show combines anecdotes, videos, photos, and music, taking audiences on an uplifting journey of discovery.

Ben said about the production: “People often ask me how to live off-grid or undertake expeditions. WILD offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into those experiences with plenty of storytelling and illustrations.”

Countryfile continues to air on BBC One Sundays and on BBC iPlayer.
