BBC The Repair Shop’s Dominic Chinea Opens Up on ‘Chaos’ Amid New Projects as Show Winds Down

Dominic Chinea, a beloved craftsman from BBC’s The Repair Shop, has candidly shared that his working life has turned into a whirlwind of activity. In a video on his YouTube channel, Dominic detailed how juggling multiple projects, including a new TV show and his ambitious personal ventures, has led to a chaotic schedule.

Filming a fresh television programme for UKTV has kept Dominic busy, often requiring him to keep much of his work under wraps. He explained, “As you can see behind me, there’s been a lot of progress in the workshop, but you’re going to have to wait for the TV show on UKTV to see much of it. I’m still working in chaos, but with the TV show coming to an end, I’ll have a bit more time to focus on my own projects.”

Dominic’s new venture involves a fascinating challenge: building a racing car powered by a World War One aircraft engine. This project has already sparked excitement among his fans. Earlier this year, he hinted at this secretive new TV show, mentioning, “It’s an awesome project and we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to share more once we’re further along. Plus, we’ll be driving a Defender—if I can get it fixed!”

A fixture on The Repair Shop since 2017, Dominic has long impressed viewers with his passion and automotive expertise. Recently, he took on another challenge when he bought a Land Rover Defender for his workshop, only to discover it needed repairs. He shared, “It’s a TD5 2000 or 2001 long 110 long bed pickup. It’s currently on axle stands with the bonnet open because it’s broken—definitely turned into a project.”

Dominic’s busy professional life comes alongside a major personal change: relocating from Kent to Cornwall. The move has been nothing short of transformative. He described the experience as “completely life-changing” and recounted the hard work involved. “I am never moving again,” he laughed. “It’s stressful, but having my workshop at home has been a dream for years. There’s still a lot to do, from shovelling cow poo where my tools are to tackling the derelict spaces. It’s a long road, but having relocated seven hours away from anyone else, it’s been good and rewarding.”

Despite the chaos, Dominic’s enthusiasm remains undiminished as he balances new TV endeavors and personal projects, all while adapting to life in a new setting.
