Chris Packham delivered some melancholy news during the opening moments of the latest Springwatch episode.
On Thursday, June 11, the presenter joined co-host Michaela Strachan on the BBC show, broadcasting live from the beautiful National Trust Crom Estate in Northern Ireland. Chris announced that this would be the final episode of the 2026 Springwatch series.
“Welcome to the final programme of Springwatch 2026, coming to you from the ever picturesque estate here at Crom in Northern Ireland. It’s the last of our run but we’ve got some great stuff coming up,” Chris said.

The announcement quickly sparked reactions from longtime fans on social media, many expressing their sadness that this year’s Springwatch had come to an end.
“Last Springwatch which is sad, but it has been fantastic as always,” one viewer commented. Another added, “I am sad that Springwatch ends tonight, but glad that I will get to see it.”
Fans lamented how quickly the season passes, with one tweeting, “Final #Springwatch of the year. A really enjoyable three weeks of TV, but like the English summer, it’s over in no time!” Another noted, “Can’t believe it’s the last episode already, just love watching and listening to what nature has to offer. We really need a summer or autumn series, not wait till winter.”
“I’ll miss you!” wrote one devoted fan, while others voiced their emotional connection to the show. “I always feel really sad when Springwatch finishes,” said one. “Well, that’s Springwatch over for another year - we’re a bit sad - it’s one of our favourite programmes along with Winterwatch,” shared another.
Many viewers described the programme as an “oasis of nature” during challenging times. “I’m quite emotional this year—combination of how I’m feeling and the horrors in the world. It’s been a refuge for three weeks,” reflected one fan. Others simply said, “I’m really going to miss it.”
As the cameras prepare to switch off on the nests and wildlife monitoring, Michaela Strachan encouraged audiences to continue enjoying the content via Springwatch’s social media platforms over the coming weeks.
Wrapping up the series, Michaela remarked, “That brings us to the end of the three weeks. It always goes so quickly, doesn’t it? We’ve had such a great time here in Northern Ireland.”
She extended thanks to the National Trust Crom Estate and all the staff and volunteers who hosted the show. Chris added gratitude to the viewers for their submissions of videos and photographs, some of which have been described as “absolutely sensational.”
Reminding fans that Springwatch’s presence continues online, Chris said, “Whilst we’re off air, remember you can stay engaged with Facebook and Instagram.”
The programme closed with highlights spanning the last three weeks as Chris signed off: “It’s goodbye from Crom. See you soon, but in the meantime, have a look at this.”
Springwatch is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
