BBC Springwatch Chaos as Chris Packham Tells Co-Star ‘You’ve Ruined It’

During a lively episode of BBC’s Springwatch broadcast live from the National Trust’s Crom estate in Northern Ireland, presenter Chris Packham found himself exasperated by co-host Michaela Strachan’s unexpected interference.

As the show wrapped up on June 9, the duo focused on limpets, marine molluscs known for their strong hold on seaside rocks. Chris used a replica limpet to explain how, over 500 million years and across 54 separate evolutionary events, limpets developed their distinctive conical shells—a fine example of convergent evolution.

Michaela added insights about limpets’ habitat in the intertidal zone, explaining how their cone shape efficiently disperses the energy of crashing waves. Contrary to popular belief, Chris clarified that limpets don’t stick to rocks via suction but instead use two types of bioadhesive “glue.”

As Chris demonstrated the attachment with the replica, Michaela began sliding it across the table to illustrate his points, accidentally detaching the makeshift radula—an important part of the model. Taken aback, Chris buried his face in his hand, exclaiming, “You just pulled the radula off. Honestly.”

The moment took a comedic turn when Michaela humorously balanced the limpet model on her head and remarked, “I think it’s time for me to get into my little scar, to put my head on and enjoy a mindful moment with the sights and sounds of the forest.”

Chris’s frustrated but amused response followed: “You’ve ruined it.” When filming resumed, he jokingly announced, “Michaela’s had her limpet confiscated. Thank goodness for that!”

Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan are set to appear in two more episodes this week before the current season of Springwatch concludes on June 11.
