Fans of the popular BBC period drama Father Brown were thrilled to see the show return last week, with Mark Williams reprising his role as the clever Catholic priest and amateur detective. Alongside Williams, familiar faces including Claudie Blakley, Ruby-May Martinwood, and Tom Chambers returned to their iconic parts.
The opening episode also welcomed back Sorcha Cusack as Mrs. McCarthy, a role she had played since the show’s inception until her departure before the tenth series. This new series promises an exciting mix of returning cast members and special guest stars—such as Coronation Street’s Maureen Lipman, Julia Sawalha, Phil Daniels, and George Rainsford—across its ten episodes.
Among the guest stars is Daisy Beaumont, who appears in the seventh episode as Frances Dewfield. While her character’s story takes a tragic turn, Mark Williams revealed that filming her death scene was unexpectedly humorous.

Speaking about memorable moments on set, Williams noted, “We sometimes have trouble with the death scenes because it’s hard to take them quite as seriously as we should. Daisy Beaumont and Nancy Carroll were both part of that scene, and it reduced us all to fits of laughter. You’ll understand when you watch it!”
The new series kicks off with the joyous wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan, who begin their lives together amidst new challenges. Isabel finds happiness joining the Policeman’s Wives Society, while Brenda embarks on a path of self-discovery as she takes on the Parish Secretary role and learns to drive. Father Brown is drawn into a tense confrontation involving Father Lazarus in prison, igniting a dangerous cat-and-mouse game that unsettles Canon Fox. With his consecration approaching, Bishop-Elect Fox sets plans in motion to get revenge on Father Brown, shaking the Kembleford community to its core. In a first for the series, the group also enjoys a seaside adventure.
Father Brown’s latest season is available now to stream on BBC iPlayer, inviting viewers back into its charming world of mystery and mayhem.
