Emotions ran high during the latest episode of BBC’s Escape to the Country on July 14, as Charlotte embarked on her search for the ideal home in Gloucestershire. Having lived in a three-bedroom flat in London, Charlotte, a PA assistant, was eager to find a three-bedroom character property with off-street parking on the edge of a village for her adult sons to visit.
With a budget of £550,000, Charlotte was joined by host Denise Nurse and her son Ben in Leonard Stanley, where they viewed their first potential home. From the moment Charlotte saw the house, she was captivated. “Oh wow, first impressions are very good! This is spot on. This is kind of everything I would hope for from the outside. It looks fabulous!” she exclaimed.
Inside, the house’s charm continued to impress. Charlotte admired the wooden beams in the reception room, a key feature she desired. In the cosy kitchen, she shared with Denise, “I love this cottagey feel. It’s perfect – especially since it’ll often be just me and the cat here.” Overwhelmed with emotion, Charlotte admitted, “I’m almost lost for words, which is quite unlike me.” Denise gently responded, “A little bit emotional?” to which Charlotte nodded, acknowledging the significance of the moment.

Although they viewed a few more properties, it was the first house in Leonard Stanley that remained imprinted in Charlotte’s mind. Reflecting on her next steps, she said, “I’m very interested in that first property. I’d love to see it again, with a clearer head and after seeing other options. I also want to explore the area more to understand the connections and what’s nearby. But I really can see myself living there—I can imagine myself in those rooms.”
Escape to the Country continues to inspire viewers searching for their ideal rural retreat and is available now on BBC iPlayer.
