Emotions ran high on BBC’s Escape to the Country during the latest episode, aired on Tuesday, July 14. Charlotte, a PA assistant relocating from a three-bedroom London flat, set out to find her dream home in Gloucester. With a budget of £550,000, she hoped to secure a charming three-bedroom property featuring off-street parking, ideally situated on the edge of a village, to accommodate visits from her adult sons.
Host Denise Nurse accompanied Charlotte and her son Ben to Leonard Stanley, where they viewed the first potential home. Even before entering, Charlotte was captivated. “Oh wow, first impressions are very good! This is spot on. This is kind of everything I would hope for from the outside. It looks fabulous!” she exclaimed.
Inside, Charlotte’s enthusiasm only grew. She admired the characterful wooden beams in the reception room—one of her key requirements. In the kitchen, she expressed her delight at the cozy, cottage-like atmosphere. “I love this cottagey feel; it’s cosy, especially since it’ll often just be the cat and me. This is just perfect,” she said.

Overcome with emotion, Charlotte confessed, “I’m almost lost for words, which is quite unlike me.” Denise Nurse gently asked if she was feeling emotional, to which Charlotte replied, “Yeah, because this is very real now. This is plenty big enough.”
Although they viewed several other properties, the Leonard Stanley home remained foremost in Charlotte’s mind. When asked about her next steps, she said, “I’m very interested in the first property. I’d love to see it again, with a clearer head after seeing the others. I want to explore the surrounding area more since I’m not familiar with it—to understand the connectivity and nearby amenities. I can genuinely see myself living there and imagine being in those rooms.”
