BBC Countryfile Pauses Episode as John Craven Shares Special Announcement

On Sunday’s episode of BBC Countryfile, viewers witnessed an unexpected pause as presenter John Craven delivered a heartfelt announcement.

The show featured presenters Adam Henson and Charlotte Smith showcasing efforts to protect Devon’s Exe Estuary. Charlotte spent time on the water with the harbourmaster and spoke to a local birdwatcher who had recently spotted a species never recorded in Devon since 1985. She also explored the critical issue of domestic abuse in rural communities, questioning whether victims are still underserved by the law. Meanwhile, Adam visited a newly established nature reserve where fallen timber is being repurposed to boost biodiversity.

Near the end of the programme, Charlotte paused to promote the Countryfile calendar, encouraging viewers to support BBC Children in Need. John Craven then appeared on camera to share uplifting news about the calendar campaign.

John announced, “A minimum of £5.50 from the sale of each calendar will be donated to BBC Children in Need. The calendars are available until January 31st. I’m thrilled to report that the 2026 Countryfile calendar has already raised an incredible £1,776,082 for charity.”

Viewers have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm for the calendar, with many sharing their purchases and support. Last year, calendar sales helped raise more than £2.3 million for BBC Children in Need.

The 2026 calendar highlights the theme ‘Wild Encounters,’ showcasing twelve finalists from the Countryfile Photographic Competition, with a different striking image featured each month.

Countryfile airs Sundays at 6 pm on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
