The latest episode of BBC’s Countryfile featured Adam Henson in a hands-on farm task that delivered a mix of tension and charm. Viewers watched as Adam attempted to load his Gloucestershire Old Spot piglets into a trailer, a task that proved far less straightforward than handling his horse.
After carefully parking and preparing the trailer, Adam explained his plan: “I’ve just backed the trailer up so that I can wean some Gloucestershire Old Spot piglets. What I’m going to have to do is open the gate and put a board in to stop them. Get the trailer completely ready and then load up what I can. Anyway, it could go all horribly wrong, I’ll give it my best shot.”
The chaos quickly unfolded as piglets proved elusive, darting around and resisting entry. Adam’s firm but patient commands—“No, no, no. Stop it! Back in, stay there, stay there!"—highlighted the unpredictable nature of moving young animals. Adding to the scene’s liveliness, curious sheep wandered in to inspect the action.

While Adam successfully guided one pig into the trailer, his piglets were more spirited. One particularly adventurous piglet slipped past the makeshift board and scurried away, leading Adam to chuckle, “That was almost genius, but one escaped!” The little escapee joined the intrigued sheep before Adam managed to catch it and reunite it with its family inside the trailer.
The task wasn’t over. Before transporting them to their new home, Adam had to worm the piglets, which involved getting into the trailer and handling the squirming animals. “Right, now this is where there will be some squealing. I might try and do it while they’re standing still,” he warned viewers. The piglets responded with loud squeals during their injections, but Adam efficiently completed the task.
Reflecting on the experience, he remarked, “I like working with pigs, but they can be quite difficult to handle sometimes. They’re very powerful!”
This engaging glimpse into farm life showcased the unpredictable challenges and heartfelt moments that come with animal husbandry on Countryfile.
