Anita Manning has firmly cemented her place as a cherished figure among Bargain Hunt fans, captivating audiences since her first appearance on the show in 2010. At 77 years old, her extensive career in the antiques world extends beyond television, including appearances on popular programs like Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip.
Anita’s pioneering journey into antiques began in the 1970s when she took on the role of a buyer, inspired by her father’s introduction to the auction scene in Glasgow. Notably, she holds the distinction of being Scotland’s first female auctioneer – an achievement that highlights her remarkable career spanning over five decades.
Before turning her focus to antiques, Anita studied physical education and dance, but her passion drew her toward trading furniture. Since 1989, she and her daughter Lala have run Great Western Auctions in Glasgow, a family business renowned for its personal touch and commitment to service.
Reflecting on her lifelong devotion to antiques, Anita shares, “For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about art, antiques, and auctions. The beauty of craftsmanship and design, paired with the social history of the items I handle daily, has been a never-ending source of joy. The excitement of the auction world is a stimulating environment I am thrilled to be part of.”
Despite the company’s significant growth over 26 years, Anita emphasizes maintaining its family-run ethos and personalized service for clients.
Anita is also known for her iconic black bob haircut, though recently she has embraced her natural grey hair, opting for a shorter, stylish new look. Fans frequently inquire about her age, and as of last year, she turned 77, with her 78th birthday approaching towards the end of 2025.
Beyond antiques and television, Anita’s family life includes her son Luke, who lives in Hong Kong, adding another dimension to her rich personal story.
