Drivers heading to the village of Batsford in the Cotswolds will face a week-long road closure starting May 19, as a one-mile section of Batsford Road undergoes essential resurfacing work. This closure will last until May 28, operating daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but will be lifted over the weekend and the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday, May 25.
The affected stretch begins at the junction with Roman Road, near Moreton-in-Marsh, and extends about one mile to the crossroads leading into the village of Batsford. During this period, motorists must follow a five-mile diversion route: traveling 2.5 miles north along Roman Road, then looping 2.5 miles south-west through the village of Aston Magna before rejoining Batsford Road beyond the closure.
Residents of Batsford planning trips toward Moreton-in-Marsh should prepare to follow this alternative route. Those who regularly park within the closure zone should arrange for alternative parking, as vehicles obstructing the works risk being towed.

Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team has issued a Temporary Traffic Order under Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to enforce the closure. The road will remain closed to all vehicles except for emergency services and essential pedestrian access where footways are available.
Due to the nature of resurfacing work, the closure area exceeds the specific repair zone to accommodate machinery and material handling. The council acknowledges the inconvenience but emphasizes that these precautions ensure the safety of both workers and residents.
