Partou Barnwood Day Nursery in Gloucester has successfully turned around its operations following a temporary closure due to safeguarding concerns. After being closed for two weeks in October 2025 amid a police investigation, the nursery received a positive Ofsted report just one month after reopening, confirming that it now meets safeguarding standards.
The nursery, which serves children aged one to four and includes a pre-school, was shut down immediately after an incident involving an allegation of assault by a staff member. Following an internal investigation and police review of CCTV footage, no further action was taken against the suspended female staff member, and the nursery reopened on October 28, 2025.
Ofsted’s inspection report, published on November 25, 2025, highlights significant improvements, noting that all regulatory requirements have been met. Inspectors praised the nursery for fostering a safe, welcoming environment where children form strong, positive attachments with staff.
The report details that safeguarding responsibilities are now being fully upheld with effective identification and management of concerns, ensuring children’s safety is prioritized. Educationally, the nursery’s team provides targeted support that equips children with essential skills needed for their next developmental stages and school readiness.
Importantly, the nursery is inclusive, providing care and support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff are described as knowledgeable about each child’s individual progress, enabling tailored learning experiences that help bridge any gaps.
While the report acknowledges progress, it also outlines areas for ongoing development. The nursery is advised to enhance the curriculum for the youngest children and strengthen partnerships with parents to better support learning at home.
Stacey Oliver, nursery manager, expressed satisfaction with the inspection outcome, emphasizing the nursery’s commitment to creative learning and child development. Samantha Rhodes, managing director at Partou, congratulated the team and reaffirmed their dedication to delivering excellent care.
With a capacity of 91 spaces, Partou Barnwood Day Nursery continues to serve its community, committed to maintaining high standards and a nurturing environment for all children.
