Bar Extends Weekend Opening Hours Amid Charity Collaboration at Gloucester M5 Services

Holy Water, a popular bar in Stroud, has been granted permission to extend its opening hours into the early morning on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue, located at 11 Lansdown, had previously been licensed to sell alcohol and play music until 11pm, but this new license permits operations until 1:30am on weekends.

Founder Adam McVay applied for the extension to accommodate increased business and enhance the bar’s charitable activities, including collaboration on a Christmas drinks range for Gloucester Services, with all profits supporting local charities. The bar is also launching initiatives aimed at supporting and training young people, paying staff above average wages to foster a positive workplace culture.

Despite some noise concerns from residents and environmental officers, particularly about disturbance from late-night garden use, the local council approved the application with conditions. The outdoor garden area must close by 10pm, and signage will remind patrons to respect neighbors and leave quietly. Adam McVay emphasized his commitment to balancing business growth with community respect and mitigating noise issues.

Councillor Martin Brown expressed concerns about potential further complaints but was reassured by McVay’s record of respectfulness and willingness to address any noise problems promptly. The license extension is seen as a way to support Holy Water’s growing role in charitable fundraising and local youth initiatives, while maintaining a focus on neighborhood harmony.
