Cameron Bancroft and James Bracey played pivotal roles as Gloucestershire claimed a six-wicket victory over Kent in the Metro Bank One Day Cup at Bristol’s Seat Unique Stadium.
Chasing a target of 209 runs, Gloucestershire’s openers laid a solid foundation with an impressive 148-run partnership. Bancroft was the top scorer with an unbeaten 89, while Bracey contributed a strong 83, helping their team reach the target comfortably with 13.5 overs remaining.
The home side’s success was underpinned by a disciplined bowling and fielding performance. Seam bowlers Will Williams and Luke Charlesworth led the attack, taking three wickets each and restricting Kent to 208 runs in 48.4 overs. Kent’s Sam Northeast top-scored with 84, and Ekansh Singh added 42, but the visitors struggled to recover after losing early wickets.

Gloucestershire’s decision to field first paid dividends as Williams and Charlesworth bowled accurately, dismissing key batsmen Daniel Bell-Drummond and Ben Dawkins early on, leaving Kent at 26 for 2. Change bowlers Aman Rao and Daz Ahmed maintained tight lines, with Ahmed claiming the wicket of Harry Finch caught behind by a diving Bracey.
Northeast reached his half-century from 79 balls, although his innings lacked fluency. At the midway point, Kent stood at 76 for 3. When Chris Benjamin was brilliantly caught behind off Charlesworth, Kent were struggling at 83 for 4.
Gloucestershire’s field placements effectively curtailed boundary opportunities, and Kent’s attempts to build momentum were thwarted by the regular loss of wickets. Jaydn Denly was caught by Jack Taylor off Ollie Price after slog-sweeping, leaving Kent at 115 for 5.
Despite a sixth-wicket stand of 47 runs from Northeast and Singh targeting the spinners, the visitors could not build a significant total. Rao claimed his first List-A wicket by dismissing Northeast, who drove straight to extra cover.
Ekansh Singh struck three sixes and two fours in a valiant effort but fell to Williams, who then also took the wicket of Grant Stewart. Charlesworth and Ahmed wrapped up the tail swiftly, dismissing Joey Evison and Matt Milnes to conclude Kent’s innings within the allotted overs.
Chasing the target, Gloucestershire faced early pressure but Bracey responded decisively, pulling Stewart over square for a six and injecting momentum into the innings. Bancroft played a supporting role as Bracey reached his half-century from 58 balls, highlighted by a straight-driven four off Stewart.
Kent’s spin attack, led by Matt Parkinson, proved ineffective as the opening partnership reached 100 runs inside 21 overs, going for 39 runs in the first four overs.
Bancroft patiently awaited his opportunities, bringing up his half-century from 65 deliveries and guiding Gloucestershire steadily towards victory. Bracey fell just after the interval, caught at deep backward square for 83 runs, which included eight fours and four sixes over his 82-ball innings.
Bancroft remained unbeaten, facing 98 balls and hitting ten fours. His experienced and composed innings anchored the successful chase, sealing a comprehensive win for Gloucestershire.
