Auctioneer’s Wholesome Series Blends The Repair Shop with Antiques Roadshow

A heartfelt and captivating new series, Angus Ashworth: Yorkshire Heritage Hero, is set to premiere on Really from 24th November. This show follows Yorkshire auctioneer Angus Ashworth as he arrives by vintage aircraft at various stately homes, assisting families in preserving and maintaining their historic estates for future generations.

Filled with genuine emotion, expert craftsmanship, and breathtaking views of Yorkshire’s grand estates, the series beautifully combines the warmth of The Repair Shop, the discovery and valuation of Antiques Roadshow, and the excitement of Escape to the Chateau.

Drawing on his extensive expertise in heritage, valuation, and restoration, Angus identifies essential repairs and raises funds for conservation by uncovering and auctioning hidden gems found within these properties.

Speaking exclusively, Angus shared what viewers can expect: “It was an absolute joy to do, a real passion for me. Touring these North Yorkshire estates — some well known, others less so — we get a rare glimpse behind the scenes. We’re not visiting the famous ones, but the ones you normally see only from afar.”

“Being treated as a house guest and pitching in gives a unique, relaxed perspective on life in these homes and the families who live there. The history we reveal is rich but never boring.”

The series also challenges misconceptions about stately homes in modern times. Angus emphasized, “It’s not Downton Abbey. Many of these families manage without staff and handle all upkeep themselves.”

He added, “We aren’t asking for sympathy, but it’s clear that maintaining these houses is a demanding, costly endeavor. They must operate commercially to survive, and that’s where we come in.”

“If items in outbuildings are surplus to requirements, we auction them to raise funds that go back into the heritage — restoring historically important features and supporting building projects. For example, we’ve restored an antique clock and an important chair, returning them as centerpiece features in the homes. It’s a wonderful circle of reuse and repurposing.”

Angus Ashworth: Yorkshire Heritage Hero airs Mondays at 9pm on REALLY.
