This morning, Tuesday, April 28, armed police were deployed to a block of flats in Cheltenham’s Pitman Road area following reports of a man seen carrying a machete. The initial call came in around 9:15 a.m., prompting a rapid response from Gloucestershire Police.
Officers arrived at the scene just 12 minutes after the report and quickly established a cordon, implementing road closures to safeguard the public while searching for the suspect. The man was soon located inside an address within the block of flats.
During the search, police also recovered a machete from the property. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. A man in his 40s, from Cheltenham, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and is currently in police custody.

After the situation was brought under control, the cordon and road closures were lifted. In response to the incident, the Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team will maintain a visible presence in the area today, conducting reassurance patrols to ensure community safety.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson confirmed the swift actions and reassured residents about ongoing patrols and vigilance in the neighborhood.
