Gloucester is on the verge of welcoming an exciting addition to its retail landscape with the imminent arrival of a new Costco warehouse. The membership-only retailer revealed in a recent social media announcement: “The wait is over… you guessed it! We’re opening soon in Gloucester!”
The forthcoming facility, spanning 140,000 square feet, represents a multi-million pound investment designed to provide a modern and efficient shopping experience. Situated on Eastern Avenue near the junction with Metz Way, the site will feature a spacious car park accommodating over 600 vehicles alongside a brand-new petrol station equipped with nine pumps.
Although the official opening date has not yet been confirmed, Costco has reiterated that it generally shares such details two to three months prior to launch. A spokesperson stated: “It is our company policy not to comment regarding future Costco warehouses until we are ready to share details about the new location.”

Construction firm Glencar, responsible for delivering the project, reports steady progression at the site. Construction Director Paul Landen expressed enthusiasm: “We look forward to delivering a high-quality facility for our members in 2026.”
Local support for the new store remains strong. Councillor Andrew Gravells of Gloucester City Council, who has championed the project since its inception, remarked: “I was the cabinet member for housing and planning when Costco first started discussions with the council, and I was pleased when they were granted planning permission. Driving past the site daily, it’s encouraging to witness the progress. It’s great to see Costco coming to Gloucester at last. While the opening date remains unknown, hopefully it is not too far away.”
Residents share this excitement, with one commenting, “So excited! No more trips to Bristol. Hurry up!”, and another adding, “I can’t wait. I have a membership, ready to go.” The arrival of Costco is anticipated to bring new shopping convenience for the people of Gloucester in the near future.
