Gloucester is soon set to welcome a new Costco store, sparking significant excitement among residents. The membership-only warehouse retailer confirmed the upcoming opening in a social media post last month, stating: “The wait is over… you guessed it! We’re opening soon in Gloucester!”
The new facility will be a substantial 140,000 square foot site, representing a multi-million pound investment. The modern, efficient warehouse will include a large car park capable of accommodating over 600 vehicles, alongside a newly constructed petrol station featuring nine pumps.
Situated on Eastern Avenue near the junction with Metz Way, the location promises easy access for shoppers across the city and surrounding areas.
Although the exact opening date has not yet been disclosed, Costco representatives have confirmed that they typically announce such details two to three months prior to launching new locations. A spokesperson said: “It is our company policy to not comment regarding future Costco warehouses until we are ready to share details about the new location.”
Construction firm Glencar, responsible for delivering the project, indicated that “good progress” has been made. Construction Director Paul Landen commented earlier this year, “We look forward to delivering a high-quality facility for our members in 2026.”
Local Conservative councillor Andrew Gravells, who has supported the development since its inception, reflected on the project’s progress. “I was the cabinet member for housing and planning when Costco first engaged with the council,” he said. “I was pleased when the planning permission was granted. Driving past the site daily, it is encouraging to witness the progress. It’s fantastic that Costco is finally coming to Gloucester. While the opening date remains unknown, hopefully it is not too far off.”
Local residents have expressed their enthusiasm for the new store. One commented, “So excited! No more trips to Bristol. Hurry up!” while another shared, “I can’t wait. I have a membership, ready to go.”
