ANPR Cameras to Enforce No-Parking Zones in Gloucester Gate Streets

Drivers in Gloucester city centre are being alerted to the upcoming installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras aimed at enforcing no-parking restrictions on the Gate Streets. These cameras are set to be operational by mid-December 2024.

This move follows growing concerns about drivers ignoring parking rules and using the Gate Streets, which are intended as pedestrian zones, to park their vehicles. Earlier in the year, calls for action intensified due to the increase in cars driving to takeaways and parking illegally along these streets, creating safety hazards for pedestrians.

In August 2024, local authorities warned motorists that fines would be issued to those caught parking illegally in the area. Now, the Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) has confirmed via Facebook that new signage and ANPR cameras will be installed where traditional bollards were previously positioned.

Loading will be permitted for a maximum of 10 minutes during restricted hours: 8am to 10am and 5pm to 6pm. Additionally, permits will be available for businesses or individuals needing to perform work in these locations.

The introduction of ANPR technology underscores Gloucester’s commitment to enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing unlawful parking in its city centre. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed about the new restrictions and adjust their parking habits accordingly.
