Anne Robinson, aged 81, has announced she is selling her £4 million converted barn in the Cotswolds, near the village of Hatherop, ending nearly 40 years of residence in the picturesque region.
The former BBC game show host, famed for The Weakest Link, described the decision as “heartbreaking.” Speaking to The Telegraph, she explained her move is motivated by a desire to be closer to her daughter, Emma, as she grows older.
Although Anne feels healthy and active, she remains mindful of the challenges her daughter faces seeing elderly friends manage aging parents from afar. “I will be 82 this autumn. I’m fit, but aware of how many of my girlfriends are trying to cope with an elderly, infirm mother miles away,” she said. Concerned about losing independence, Anne added, “I wouldn’t pass a driving test. I don’t want anyone to dictate my future.”

Her new residence is a charming fourth-floor terrace flat overlooking Hyde Park, surrounded by greenery and just a few streets from Emma’s home. The move will allow them to spend more quality time together while embracing London’s cultural vibrancy.
Reflecting on changes in the Cotswolds, Anne remarked on the transformation of Bibury, once a quiet village but now bustling with tourists. She also noted the recent influx of influential figures, mentioning Apple’s Jony Ive and Australian designer Marc Newson as notable newcomers. “Some even call us Sili-Coln-Valley,” she observed.
Anne praised fellow TV personality Jeremy Clarkson, who lives nearby and is respected among local farmers for his genuine appreciation of the countryside.
Though leaving the Cotswolds is difficult, Anne looks forward to embracing city life. Plans with Emma include visits to the Tate and attending theatrical performances, embracing “one of the most vibrant capitals in the world.”
