Anne Robinson has revealed the poignant reasons behind her decision to leave her cherished home in the Cotswolds and move to London. In July, Anne announced she would be selling her historic Grade II-listed barn near Hatherop to relocate closer to her daughter Emma and grandchildren.
At 81, Anne acknowledges the changes ageing brings. While she describes herself as “fit,” she admits that being distant complicates matters for her family, who are trying to manage caring for an elderly mother from afar. She also mentioned she “wouldn’t pass a driving test” any longer due to declining eyesight.
In a recent interview with Lorraine Kelly on the YouTube series “Experience Is Everything with Saga,” Anne shared how she maintains her wellbeing. She practices Pilates twice weekly, participates in fitness exercises, and runs, seeing these activities as vital to staying healthy.

Anne explained that her eyesight deterioration and inability to drive have led to social isolation, influencing her choice to sell her countryside home. “It’s a sensible decision, though not an easy one,” she said, reflecting on the 40 years she spent there. She emphasised the importance of staying independent while recognising the practicalities of her situation.
Lorraine Kelly noted the move made sense and would help Anne retain her independence. Anne expressed the need to “hang on to what we can” as we grow older and revealed plans to move into a fourth-floor terrace overlooking Hyde Park in London.
Previously, Anne informed The Telegraph that her Cotswolds property, listed for £4.25 million, was with estate agent Sam Butler. She also expressed her desire to maintain control over her future, stating she did not want “anyone to dictate” her choices.
Her new London residence is just a few streets from Emma’s home, allowing for closer family connections. Anne is embracing the vibrant city life, with plans to visit the Tate and see plays. She will also be bringing her Australian labradoodle, Martha, who will need to adapt to the new surroundings, including the presence of parakeets and cockatoos.
Anne’s move marks a significant transition, balancing independence with the support and closeness of family, reflecting the challenges many face when adapting to the realities of ageing.
