Renowned as The Governess on ITV’s The Chase, 66-year-old Anne Hegerty has acknowledged the superior quizzing abilities of her co-star, naming Victoria Groce as “the best in the world.” Despite her own impressive record, Anne humbly concedes that there are quizzers who surpass her skill level.
Anne’s television career skyrocketed after her debut as a Chaser on The Chase in 2010. In addition to her appearances on the Australian version of the show, she has participated in various spin-offs and gained recognition on international platforms. Prior to her TV stardom, Anne flourished as a journalist and ghost writer, making her television debut on Mastermind in 1987 and even serving as a “phone a friend” lifeline on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Amidst her numerous achievements, Anne has excelled on programs like Fifteen to One, Today’s the Day, Brain of Britain, and Are You an Egghead?. Since joining The Chase, she has demonstrated her prowess by winning 79.9% of her episodes, establishing herself as the most successful Chaser.

Victoria Groce’s prominence in the US originated with her successful challenge against David Madden’s 19-day winning streak on the popular quiz show Jeopardy! in 2005. Her eminence further solidified when she triumphed in the pairs competition at the International Quizzing Championships alongside Eggheads star Kevin Ashman. By clinching victory at the World Quizzing Championships, Victoria made history as the first woman and American to claim the prestigious title, following her previous accomplishments of securing silver and bronze medals in the competition.
Joined by UK Chaser Mark Labbett, Victoria became part of The Chase US in 2022, amplifying her global impact in the quizzing community. Her remarkable achievements parallel those of seasoned competitors like Kevin Ashman, a six-time World Quizzing Championships winner, and Patrick Gibson, a former Who Wants to be a Millionaire? champion with four championships to his name.
