Andrew to Lose Honorary Military Rank Amid Epstein Controversy, Defence Secretary Confirms

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor will be stripped of his honorary rank of vice-admiral, Defence Secretary John Healey has confirmed. Elevated to vice-admiral on his 55th birthday in 2015, Andrew retained the title even after relinquishing other military roles in 2022.

Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew had been stripped of his “prince” title and would vacate the Royal Lodge at Windsor following mounting allegations related to his private life. The controversy stems from his associations with convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, allegations Andrew vehemently denies.

Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Healey stated, “The Government has been guided by the decisions and judgments of the King. In defence matters, it’s consistent—we have seen Andrew give up his honorary military positions, and under the King’s guidance, we are in the process of removing his final remaining title of vice-admiral.”

When asked about the possibility of Andrew losing his military medals, Healey remarked, “Those medals recognize his actual service. I don’t have an update on that front, but as with his vice-admiral rank and title, we will follow the King’s decisions.”
