Andi Weimann has expressed his eagerness and belief that he still has much to contribute after signing for Cheltenham Town ahead of the 2026/27 League Two season.
The 35-year-old Austria international striker, who once featured regularly in the Premier League with Aston Villa and has amassed over 400 appearances in the Championship, joins Cheltenham with a wealth of experience to offer both on and off the pitch.
Following a loan spell at Rapid Vienna - the club he supported growing up - during the latter part of last season, Weimann has returned to England to be with his wife and three children while preparing to compete in League Two.

“I am delighted to be here and to get it done,” said Weimann. “I can’t wait to get going. I still have a lot of football left in me and I am still pretty fit, so hopefully I can give a lot on the pitch, but also off it because I have seen a lot of things in football.
“I have been around it for nearly 20 years, so hopefully I can be someone to learn from if anyone needs help, and one of the things the manager said is to be the professional I am and hopefully everyone will follow.”
Weimann’s career began when he joined Aston Villa from Rapid Vienna as a 16-year-old, progressing through the ranks to make his Premier League debut in August 2010 against West Ham. He later competed in the Europa League and experienced loan spells, including one at Watford.
He marked his Premier League progress by scoring a late winner against Fulham in the 2011/12 season and netted 12 goals in the 2012/13 campaign. In 2015, he transferred to Derby County for £2.5 million, and later had spells on loan at Wolves and a permanent move to Bristol City in 2018, where he played alongside current Cheltenham defenders Robbie Cundy and George Nurse.
Internationally, Weimann has earned 26 caps for Austria and scored a memorable goal against France in June 2022’s Nations League match held in Vienna. His strike gave Austria the lead before the World Cup holders equalised late on.
After a year with Blackburn Rovers, Weimann returned to Derby in the summer of 2025 before moving back to Rapid Vienna on loan in early 2026.
“Rapid Vienna are the team I supported as a kid, so it was nice to play for them,” he said. “It was also tough because my wife and kids stayed here, so I was by myself for three months.”
Reflecting on his arrival at Cheltenham Town, Weimann added: “I’ve had some really good conversations with the manager in the last few days and it came out of nowhere a little bit. It was like the first day of school on Friday, walking in and you are a bit nervous, but everyone seems really nice so far.
“I will give 100 per cent as I always have done and I’d say all the managers I’ve played for have liked that. The fans will see that I give everything and I have scored goals throughout my career.”
