Amanda Owen has candidly shared the emotional challenges she faced while filming with her ex-husband Clive for their Channel 4 series Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive, and Kids.
Despite their split in 2022 after two decades of marriage and raising nine children together, the pair continue to work on TV projects.
The Yorkshire shepherdess was close to tears during a particularly tense moment on set when Clive attempted to instruct her on internet usage. “Clive starts trying to tell me how to use the internet. That was definitely tear-jerking in a painful manner, in that mansplaining way,” she recounted, expressing the frustration that led to a “red mist” descending over her.

Speaking to The Mirror, Amanda admitted that the show captures both the good and bad times on the farm, stating, “You get to see the rough with the smooth on the farm. We aren’t The Waltons! […] It’s like one of these home renovation projects, but Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen I ain’t.”
Despite the picturesque life on the farm, Amanda also acknowledged that her children are not immune to the allure of technology, saying, “They love nothing more than getting online.”
She touched upon the pressures of modern parenting, noting that in these “judgmental times” it’s “hard” to always make the right choices as a parent.
Clive has previously spoken about the reasons behind his split from Amanda, confessing: “If I’m honest about it, I didn’t want to accept that I was no longer the breadwinner for our family. It was especially hard knowing that Amanda, who is a very beautiful woman, would be going out all dressed up to launches and events and meeting other people.”
The couple had a significant age difference of 21 years, with Amanda being just 21 when she first met her future husband, who was 42 at the time.
In 2024, Clive further explained: “I wanted to keep her to myself and for her not to leave the farm. That’s really when the relationship started to go bad, I suppose – about five years ago. I was angry and drinking a lot of whisky.
“It was my way to cope, but it led to arguments, and as my behavior got worse, it was too much for Amanda to bear.
“I know she dreaded coming home because she knew what was coming and that I would start a fight. My anger drove Amanda away.”
