In a heartfelt and honest episode of More4’s Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids, viewers were given a glimpse into the Owens’ life as they renovate the weathered farmhouse known as ‘Anty John’s’ while managing their Yorkshire farm. Amidst their busy schedule, Amanda Owen shared insights into Clive’s recovery following hip surgery, shedding light on the challenges he has faced.
“He’s lost his crutches, actually! It puts him in a bit of better humour when he can come outside and be part of what’s going on. It’s been very frustrating for him… that’s me being polite!” Amanda remarked, capturing the complexities of Clive’s healing process.
The candidness didn’t stop there. While Clive focused on tending to the sheep, Amanda didn’t shy away from letting her frustrations show. “You have been unbearable!” she playfully told him. Clive responded with a chuckle, maintaining a lighthearted atmosphere, saying, “I’ve kept myself to myself, I’ve minded my own business. I don’t think I’ve shouted at anybody or anything.”

Amanda stood her ground, recounting a moment when Clive’s frustration was particularly evident after his surgery. “There was one day you were sat in your underpants staring at the floor in the kitchen, yeah? You were really angry.” Though Clive admitted how difficult the experience was, Amanda joked, “You are a frustrating and horrible thing.”
Their teasing underscored the enduring camaraderie between them despite the challenges. Clive’s surgery, which took place late last year, was also a topic Amanda touched on during a recent ITV Lorraine appearance. She candidly described him as “a terrible patient,” and while things aren’t always done the way Clive desires, “most of the time we don’t care.”
Though Amanda and Clive separated in 2022 after more than two decades together, their partnership remains strong in other ways. The couple, who first met in the late ’90s when Amanda was a trainee shepherdess working alongside Clive, married in 2000 and have nine children featured across their TV series.
Together, they continue to restore ‘Anty John’s’ to its former glory, balancing family, farming, and the inevitable ups and downs of life with resilience and humor.
