Significant traffic disruptions are expected across the Cotswolds this weekend as demonstrators gather to protest the US-Israel conflict with Iran at RAF Fairford. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) has organized a protest slated for Saturday, April 25, targeting the airbase which hosts American bomber jets.
Gloucestershire County Council has detailed a series of rolling road closures affecting 11 roads between 11am and 5pm to accommodate the protest. The event will commence around noon on Fairford High Street, where participants will assemble before marching towards the Royal Air Force base.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson emphasized their commitment to supporting peaceful protest while balancing the rights of the general public: “We fully respect the fundamental democratic right to protest and have a long history of facilitating peaceful demonstrations. However, we must also ensure that the wider community can continue daily activities with minimal disruption. We will not hesitate to act against any unlawful behavior."
