Alex Jones, the BBC presenter who has been a staple of The One Show for 15 years, has shared her thoughts on both the programme’s enduring success and her own future with the show. Marking two decades since its first broadcast in August 2006, The One Show continues to attract a loyal audience, with Jones confident the programme will thrive for many years to come.
“I think this show will probably outlive any of us,” the 49-year-old told Closer magazine. “It’s more relevant than ever and as successful as ever. People in television are often obsessed with what’s next, but longevity is really hard to sustain.”
Regarding her own involvement, Jones said, “If they’ll have me, I’ll stay as long as they want!” demonstrating her affection for the show and her commitment to its continued success.

Reflecting on the nature of live broadcasting on The One Show, the Welsh presenter acknowledged the occasional on-air slip-ups. “Because the show is so well produced, I think people sometimes forget it’s live. We don’t over-rehearse because we want to keep it fresh and we enjoy not quite knowing what’s going to happen,” she explained. “I get people’s names wrong all the time, but I don’t think people mind because they’re on a journey with us.”
Over the years, Jones has collaborated with numerous co-hosts, including Matt Baker, who left the show in 2020 after nine years, and recently has been joined by Vernon Kay, Roman Kemp, and Ronan Keating.
Beyond her work on The One Show, Jones has expanded her repertoire by temporarily co-hosting Zoe Ball’s Dig It podcast during Jo Whiley’s absence. In a recent episode, she gained insight into family life, sharing anecdotes about her husband Charlie Thomson and their three children.
In a lighter moment, Jones echoed common frustrations when discussing household chores, revealing to Zoe Ball her irritation with Charlie’s approach to laundry: “He says, ‘I’m going to put a wash on’ and you can see that he’s really pleased with himself. He puts a pile outside his bedroom door, which maybe he’ll carry down two hours later to the washing machine. Then if the washing machine is full, he’ll just leave them by the washing machine hoping the magical fairies of washing will come and put them in. Or he’ll put them in and he’ll put it on and the wash will happen but he will never empty it.”
She added that while Charlie has “good intentions,” she often ends up rewashing the laundry herself.
The One Show continues to air weekdays at 7pm on BBC One, maintaining its place as a popular fixture in British television.
