Aldi Unveils Ambitious Plan to Open 115 New Stores Across the UK

Aldi has announced a bold expansion strategy targeting 115 prime locations throughout the UK for new store openings. This initiative underscores its commitment to maintaining its status as the third-largest food and drink supermarket in the country, a position it recently secured ahead of Asda.

Amid ongoing financial pressures on households, Aldi is rapidly accelerating its growth to ensure that families across the UK continue to have access to high-quality food at unbeatable prices. Its expansion plan includes major metropolitan areas such as London, Manchester, Cardiff, and Glasgow, along with key towns and suburbs.

Notably, Wolverhampton and Sheffield will each see two additional Aldi stores, while Leicester is poised to welcome four new outlets, highlighting these regions as vital hubs for the chain’s development. Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK’s Managing Director of National Real Estate, emphasized the company’s mission: “Our goal at Aldi is to provide everyone with access to excellent food at prices that can’t be beaten. With ambitious plans to open 40 new stores next year and refurbish existing locations, we are enhancing the shopping experience for customers across the nation.”

Currently operating over 1,050 UK stores, Aldi aims to grow its portfolio to 1,500 outlets. This year, the retailer is investing £650 million into new store launches and upgrades. Summer will see ten new store openings in areas such as Oldbury, Fulham Broadway, Brighouse, and Caterham.

Each new store is expected to create around 40 new jobs, reinforcing Aldi’s reputation for offering competitive wages. Earlier this year, the supermarket increased its hourly pay rates to £12.75 nationally and up to £14.05 in London, with another raise scheduled for September.

Market data from Kantar highlights Aldi’s rising influence, showing its share of the UK food and drink sector reaching 9.8%, surpassing Asda’s 9.4%. However, Asda is pushing back with promises of further price cuts and claims it still outsells Aldi when non-food products like toiletries, clothing, and fuel are included.

In addition to store expansions, Aldi is enhancing its product range with the return of its popular “Taste of America” snack lineup. This collection features fan favourites such as Hot Dog & Onion Crisps and an exclusive Teriyaki-flavored Takis, which are especially popular among younger shoppers.

This expansion covers diverse UK regions including Central & West Midlands, North/East Midlands, Merseyside, Cheshire, Shropshire & North Wales, East of England, East Anglia, Essex & Hertfordshire, South Central & Home Counties, London, South East, and South Wales & South West.
